TV or the Internet?

If my husband and I are to choose between TV or the Internet, we’d pick the Internet anytime.  That is why we never considered getting cable subscription despite the advent of HD TV, Bell TV or TiVo.  This rubs off on our daughter who seems to ignore cartoons and other kids’ shows.  She’s been a fan of the Wiggles, Hi-5, Dora and will watch mainly those shows on DVD.  I think it’s a good thing.  It reinforces our decision not to subscribe to cable anytime soon.

Itchy Hands

Last weekend, my hands were itching to rearrange our living room furniture for the nth time.  Of course, I had my husband help put my ideas into action because any brisk move I’d make can potentially send us all to the birthing suite! Ha ha.  Then, I wished that we have wall mounts for the TV and some special framed photos.  After we have rearranged the bulky stuff, I realized that we really can’t do much to make the living room look neater because of too much clutter.  Sigh.

With A Little Help From Friends

Our move to Sydney was made easier with the help of friends who have established residence here for years.  Their experiences and tips became handy when it was our turn to take care of the nitty-gritty stuff like getting personal, house and motorhome insurance.  Without their help, we will be at a loss for sure.  Although we have toured Sydney years ago, settling in is a totally different ball game.  Thank God for friends!

Tough Times

It can be irritating at times when, some companies send you tons of junk mails (e.g. surveys, insurance quotes) and make follow-up calls thereafter.  As if it’s not enough that you spend time sorting the mails, reading through them and eventually throwing them away, they still call to follow-up on their marketing gimmick.  However, I do feel for these people who do hard selling for a living.  It is indeed a tough job.  But time is precious to be wasted for these kinds of nuisance. :(

A Happy, Happy Christmas

My family has started preparing the place where we’ll stay when we fly to the Philippines in November.  The details such as windows, AC filters, electric fans, cabinets will be scrubbed clean of course and I requested for new curtains and possible a sofa set to be put in place.  I’m excited to bring home the kids and with the husband joining us after a month, I’m looking forward to a happy, happy Christmas!

Living in Suburbia

A couple of friend visited us last Sunday and brought up the topic of moving in our suburb.  The husband openly admitted that he’s getting worried about the area where they currently live as most of the gang-related activities originate from their suburb.  He had home alarm systems installed in their apartment but he’s still concerned about the safety of his family and his belongings.  Of course, we encouraged them to move near where we live.  It would be nice to have more good friends around!

Water Drops

In the ten months that we have been renting a villa, we’ve not had major problems with our neighbors or the apartment per se.  Save for minor leaks in the kitchen and bathroom pipes, which were immediately repaired by the landlord’s handyman, we have nothing negative to say about our place.  I can say that the owners and their agents are doing a good job maintaining this property.  If only all landlords are like them, who give immediate attention to every complaint and issues in their property (even as minor as discount faucets), then home leasing will be as easy as it should be.

Full of Discoveries

Having lived in Singapore for over six years and comparing it with over a year of being based here in Australia, I’d say there’s a really big difference in the way of life.  Some areas are too extreme that it’s not logical to make comparisons.

It’s good that the daily news does not only keep me abreast with the goings-on in the country but also teaches me about life here in Sydney.  For example, I was clueless about bikie gangs and how they can get into trouble and break the law and might be needing something like a Pleasanton motorcycle accident attorney in the process.  Or, varied topics ranging from footy (a sport) to food.  It sure looks like there are a lot of things in store for us to discover in the land down under.

On Home Design

I’ve mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I was addicted to Channel 9’s show Home Made.  And all along I was rooting for the winner, Jason Sullivan.  I like his taste and sense of style when it comes to color schemes and picking up different decors and commercial furniture.  It’s like he was born to design homes!  I am actually waiting for the design magazine to come out so I could keep some sort of memorabilia of the show.

Needing a Break

I miss traveling.  It’s been four years since we had our major vacation trip to the US and I’m so looking forward to the next opportunity where we can bring the kids with us to see not just the tourist spots but our families there as well.

But to be more realistic, I would love for the winter season to be over so we can head to the beach again.  The husband and I need a break from anything baby preparations-related. Ha!  A weekend day trip would be nice since an overnight beach stay would be too tiring for me.  Unless of course we’d rent a beautifully furnished beach house just like what Outer Banks rentals offer.  Sigh, it’s so nice to daydream.
