One of the things we accomplished during our short stay in Singapore was to have our rings cleaned. We were worried about entrusting our diamond rings (wedding and engagement) to jewelry shops in Manila for fear that our stones might be swapped for fake ones. I know, that sounds so distrustful but we prefer to err on the side of caution. Good thing, the shops were we bought our rings in Singapore provide a free cleaning service so I was happy to hand over our precious rings, which we got back after less than 10 minutes.

Self-hosting Made Easy
These days, searching for a good web host is no longer as intimidating as it was in the past. With the help of Google search and a lot of websites providing guides, reviews and newsletters, it’s just a matter of choosing which company you’d entrust your websites to. Web Hosting Choice is one of those online guides that provide valuable information such as rating, pricing and tips for beginners (or even experts) in self-hosting.
Straightforward terminologies used can pretty much put any noob (or newbie) at ease. They even have a dedicated page for “Scams” that is helpful because there are still a lot of “fake” hosting companies out there, ready to make big bucks out of innocent website owners. So, make sure to check out Web Hosting Choice!
Blessed Soul
With access to the television 24×7, I can say that I’ve watched a good number of news and updates about the Victoria bush fires. What I’m enjoying to see nowadays are the relief operations that regular people (meaning not the government officials or servants) undertake to help rebuild the communities.
Donations poured in like mad and the victims could not be happier. There is one guy who lost a lot of family and friends, spearheaded a campaign to give out campers/trailers, generators and practically every essential item in the household to fellow victims. There were car lifts used to bring down the heavy generators and quite a number of campers set up. Families have since moved in to the campers from the tents and public buildings they have sought refuge from during the height of the fires. God bless that man’s soul.
Baking 'Mojo'
It’s a shame to admit that after the banana muffins that I baked from scratch, I’m now resorting back to good old Betty Crocker for our desserts (diet pills alert!). Other than time and patience, I’m lacking the motivation to learn new cakes or pastries to bake. I do miss baking from scratch though, that freshly baked cake or a piece of steamy muffin that you can proudly serve and claim you did on your own! So I guess, I just have to wait for my baking ‘mojo’ to come back.
Go Wireless
When we moved apartments and got a new Internet Service Provider (ISP), we didn’t realize that our Linksys router would no longer be usable. This is because the current ISP has a preferred router and only that brand will work with their connection. Unfortunately for us, that router we have is relatively new with only a few months of usage and now we paid-off a few extra bucks to get another one. Sigh.
Big Screen TV Can Wait
With the current economic dip now strongly felt in Australia, many companies have put up various marketing gimmicks to sell their products. Stores in most malls offer discounts, extended warranties and freebies among the many other attention-grabbing tactics that they can advertise to entice buyers. If not for our current living arrangement now (we’re still renting), where a small TV works for us, we would buy a bigger LCD TV with LCD mount. That’s always in our to-buy-when-we-become-homeowners list.
Of Lighting and Fixtures
One of the light bulbs in our common bathroom got busted a month ago. The thing is, the lighting fixture there has what seems to be a special kind of bulb that does not only emit light but heat as well. Browsing on the Internet for information on how it’s called, we learned that we need led light bulbs. We thought it’s something that’s hard to find but the husband was able to get a replacement from the nearby mall. Whew! Good thing it’s not winter season yet and we survived the whole month without using that particular lighting.
Rain or Shine
I was clearing up our hat and jacket rack when I decided to pay attention to the growing number of umbrellas that we have. We’re only three in the family but we have about 10 umbrellas in various colors and sizes! Most of them were promotional business gifts from job and insurance agents and others were bought in the past. I hope all of them are still in working condition though.
Spoil You Rotten
I miss having a part-time help around. She used to come by twice or thrice a month when we were still based in Singapore. She does general cleaning and ironing when both the husband and I were too busy to take care of the apartment because of our work schedule. I miss the freshly ironed sheets and all the little things that we just took for granted back then. Not that they’re a great deal now. But it would be nice to be treated like staying in luxury hotel rooms everyday because there’s an available help to pamper and spoil you.
